CARE GUIDE

Caring for Gold-Plated Jewellery

Gold plating applied to sterling silver jewellery naturally wears over time as a result of regular use. With proper care, however, its beautiful golden finish can be preserved for longer.
To help maintain the appearance of your gold-plated jewellery, we recommend the following:
--- Remove your jewellery before sleeping, showering, exercising, swimming, or performing household tasks.
---Avoid direct contact with perfumes, cosmetics, alcohol-based products, detergents, and other chemicals.
--- To minimise scratches and premature wear of the gold layer, avoid wearing your jewellery in direct contact with other accessories, such as watches or bracelets.
--- Store your jewellery in a jewellery box or its original Lilé packaging, away from direct sunlight.
--- Avoid storing jewellery in humid environments such as bathrooms, as moisture may accelerate the oxidation of sterling silver.
--- Remove your jewellery before washing your hands or cleaning.
--- Gold-plated jewellery is best reserved for everyday wear with care or for special occasions, rather than activities involving excessive moisture, perspiration, UV exposure, or seawater.
Exposure to humidity, sweat, sunlight, and salt water may significantly reduce the lifespan of the gold plating.
Cleaning
To preserve its shine, gold-plated jewellery should be cleaned with particular care. --- Use a specialist jewellery polishing cloth or a soft cotton or silk cloth.
--- If necessary, use products specifically designed for cleaning gold jewellery.
--- Always clean gently and avoid excessive rubbing, which may wear away the plated surface.
--- We do not recommend cleaning gold-plated jewellery with harsh detergents or chemical cleaning agents, as they may cause discolouration or damage the finish.

Silver Tarnishing

Tarnishing is a natural characteristic of sterling silver. The darkening that appears on silver is caused by silver sulphide, a compound that forms when silver reacts with sulphur-containing substances present in the air. As silver is constantly exposed to both air and skin contact, tarnishing is an inevitable and entirely natural process. The higher the concentration of sulphur compounds in the environment, the more quickly silver may darken. Environmental factors can influence the rate of tarnishing. Jewellery worn in urban or highly polluted areas may tarnish faster than jewellery kept in cleaner surroundings. Individual body chemistry can also play a role, as natural compounds released through the skin may accelerate the oxidation process. Regular wear, proper storage, and gentle cleaning will help maintain the beauty and brilliance of your sterling silver jewellery for years to come.
